2017.05.29 Newsletter

Welcome to Week 5 of Term 2, 2017.
2017 Term Dates : Term 2 :1st May - 7th July. Term 3 : 24th July - 29th September. Term 4: 16th October - 20th December.   

Our focus for 2017 … is Mahi tahi which with see everyone working together collaboratively to achieve learner-centred educational goals. With a focus on building positive relationships that will continue well after the learning goals have been achieved.  Our unit for this term is understanding ourselves and history of where we have come from, hauora, and looking into the history of our area. Everyone will write their pepeha.

Our production this year is “Grease”. The songs and dances are going really well. This week we are now concentrating on students learning their words. We plan to have no scripts by Friday so please could parents help students learn their words. We are presently organising costumes.

Calendar of Events
5th June : Queens Birthday - school closed.
6th June : School re-opens at 9.00a.m.
15th June : Rod Webster from ERO to visit with Ben, Mary and Louise.
16th June : Cross Country at Waituna West (pp date : 23rd June).
16th June : Possum Hunt begins.
19th June : Board of Trustee Meeting.
21st June : School concert. Students need to be ready for 6pm start. Dress Rehearsal at 11am.
22nd June : Feilding High School Open Day.
25th June : Possum Hunt finishes - Fun Day at Makoura Lodge.
7th July : Mid Winter Christmas get together.
7th July : Term 2 ends at 2.45pm.
24th July : Term 3 begins at 9.00a.m.
Technicraft continues for Term 2 but not for Terms 3/4.

Farewell
Unfortunately we had to say farewell last Friday to Cidnee, Tayler and Ava who along with their mum and dad have left the district.  We wish the Flutey family all the very best for the future.  
Thank you to all those who supported the farewell shared lunch well with lots of yummy food.

Congratulations to Genny who is working well on her colours and her new timetable.

Softball / Ki O Rahi / Cross Country Training
Please make sure students are equipped with the appropriate gear for these activities and have warm clothes on hand, to put on afterwards.  

Bon Apiti - Fisher
Bon Apiti will continue this term every Thursday.  Soup will not continue on Tuesdays at this stage. However Fisher has surveyed the students. The bon Apiti lunches will be toasties at two dollars and students can have a choice of pineapple, cheese or spaghetti. There will also be smoothies at $2 for a provided cup or $3 for a cup that they bring, flavours will be mixed berry.  

Concert 21st June
The dress Rehearsal will be at 11am. You are most welcome to attend especially if you have young children. There may also be a school in attendance. For the evening show, students need to be ready for the 6pm start to the Concert. A gold coin donation helps us cover the cost of supper, programme, hiring costumes and lights.

Board of Trustee News - The next Board meeting will be held on Monday the 19th of June at 3.00pm with the STA (School Trustee Assoc), regarding the new Health and Safety regulations, this will then be followed by a Board meeting in the school staff room.  Everyone is most welcome to attend.  The agenda will be posted on the blog spot prior to the meeting.  Previous Board meeting minutes are able to be viewed on the blogspot by clicking on the BOT tab.

Senior Inquiry - Each student has a different topic they are researching in the senior school. It would be fabulous if you could discuss the topic with them and give them any information they could use in their inquiry. There are a range of topics from transport, farming, industry and schooling and what has been the effect on Apiti over time. We can’t wait to read these children’s findings.

Mobile Dental Unit - The Mobile Dental Unit has completed its visit at Apiti School. Anyone who still needs dental work done, will be going to Kimbolton or Feilding or the hospital for treatment. This would have been discussed with parents. If you have any queries or need urgent dental care, the phone number to ring is 0800 825 583 to be directed to the nearest dental clinic.

Robotics Report - Fisher, Jackson, Tyler and Phinece are our Robotics team. This is run by the the FHS STEAM (STEAM = Science, Technology, Electronics, Art and Mathematics). The team go every Tuesday after school. Recently they have been in competitions to construct a robot which can go up an incline. The climb they were successful at was 50реж. The other competition is to construct a robot which can complete a square course at the fastest speed.

Queens Birthday - School will be closed on Monday the 5th of June to observe Queens Birthday and will reopen on Tuesday the 6th at 9.00am.  Enjoy the long weekend!

Sports Reports - 27.05.17
I played rugby at Ongley park against the Kia Toa team, we lost 5 tries 2 conversions to 1 try 1 conversion.  - Fisher.
On Saturday my team played at Maxwells Line Park against Kia Toa.  My team lost 47 to 12.  -  Tyler.
Jacksons team had a bye.
Johnnys team played Bulls in Feilding and won 30 - 5.  Johnny scored 3 tries!
