2016.10.12 Touch Tournament

Oroua Schools Touch Tournament
This event is happening tomorrow (Thursday the 13th) at the Kimbolton Domain and involves the whole school.  As we are having to rely on the bus for transporting the students to and from Kimbolton, all students will need to be at school by 8.45 as we now need to be at Kimbolton by 9.00am (as Pat, the bus driver is needing to be at Kimbolton by 9.00).  The tournament finishes at 1.45.  Bus students will be dropped home following this.  Please note that this would be approx 3/4 of an hour earlier than normal.  All other students can be picked up from school on our return at 2.00pm.  Nicki will be at school until 2.45.
A reminder that students will need to wear their full sports uniform please and take a good packed lunch, snacks and a water bottle. It would also be a good idea, as the weather is unpredictable, to take a change of uniform (the Canterbury uniform) to change into if it is wet.  Thank you to Hannah who has volunteered to manage 1 of the year 1 - 2 teams.
I have allocated students to the following vehicles :
BLACKMORE : Savannah and Saxon.
PRATT : Brooke and Johnny.
STIMPSON : Fisher and Phinece.
BUS : Jackson, Tyler, Ava, Lauren, Sarah, Summer, Caelan, Josie, Katie, Cidnee, Tayler, Abbey, Aimee, Bently, Renee and Bentley.
Return trip :

FIELDER : Brooke, Johnny and Ava.
BUS : Lauren, Sarah, Summer, Phinece, Caelan, Josie, Katie, Cidnee, Tayler, Abbey, Aimee, Bently, Renee and Bentley.

Lamb and Calf Day - Tasks completed on Thursday morning
These 3 tasks are decided by the students each year.
Here are a few notes to help you with your planning:-
If you need help with organising any aspects, please contact Nicki before Lamb and Calf Day. We can always source extra to help out.
Miniature Scene
This is a scene created in a roasting tray sized dish. It needs to follow our theme of Whanaungatanga … Things working together to make things work.
Students are expected to bring the container for their miniature scene from home. About roasting tray size is best. It may be anything between a shoe box lid and bread tray size.
This is filled with sand from the school sandpit. (The sand can be returned at the end of the day).
Pieces for the scene are to be bought from home. Students are welcome to practice and try their scene at home … but must be brought to school in pieces and put together from scratch on Lamb and Calf Day.
Judging Criteria
The best Miniature Scene will:
  • Be in a container such as a meat, roasting or slice tray.
  • Show how things work together and are connected.
  • Use a range of materials as part of the display.
  • Show effective use of the space.
  • Have a title.
Live Arrangement in a Decorated Container
Any interesting container can be used and any living matter can be used for the arrangement e.g. flowers, sticks, leaves.
The container and pieces for the arrangement are to be bought from home.
We share our flowers etc here as everyone has different bits in their gardens. If you have extra we would really appreciate you sending a bit extra to school.
Judging Criteria
The best Arrangement will:
  • The base for the arrangement is a container of interest.
  • The base is decorated or displayed in an interesting way.
  • Uses greenery, plant matter and/or flowers effectively.
  • the arrangement is aesthetically pleasing e.g. use of height, shape, colour, contrast.
  • The base and arrangement have a connection through the way they are done.
Recycled Sculpture
The key here is a creative piece that would look awesome in the centre of a table.
The size and materials used is up to students but materials must be recycled.
Staplers, cellotape, glue sticks and glue guns will be available at school for use.
We are aware that some joins may be difficult, or unsafe, for a student to complete in the timeframe. These may be done at home, under parental supervision. Students must do it all themselves however to make it fair for everyone. Students are encouraged to trial their ideas at home but the pieces are to be bought to school to be constructed on the morning of Lamb and Calf Day.
Judging Criteria
The best Recycled Sculpture will:
  • Depict a theme or connection.
  • Make an interesting centrepiece for an indoor or outdoor table.
  • Use recycled materials in an original and interesting way.

Photo Essay
Well done to students who have taken their 4 -7 photos and sent them to school.
These photos tell a story or sequence without words.

Cushions
We still need fill for the cushions. Please send any old pillows / cushions to school … Many thanks.

Contacting the school

As you will be aware that Mary is absent from school after her unfortunate accident in Bali, we ask that until further notice you no longer text Mary on her number regarding school matters (personal texts are still welcome) as she is needing to concentrate on recovering.  Please either text Nicki on 027 3289688 or ring the school on 3284 884.  Thank you for your co-operation at this time.
