Term 4 Staffing
Unfortunately Mary had quite a bad fall while in Indonesia during the holidays, leaving her in hospital with a badly broken ankle and unable to start the term. Our thoughts are with her and we wish her a very speedy recovery. It is at times like this that it is great to have such an experienced team at Apiti School. Until Mary returns Linda Penfold will be teaching in the junior room. Please don’t hesitate to contact Nicki at any time, as she is the Acting Principal at school in Mary’s absence.
Celebrating our Successes:
This term we will continue to share our students achievements learning independently online. This is a great way for all students to challenge themselves and learn at their own pace in a motivating environment. It also makes a great homework challenge.
Our particular focus this term will be Mathletics, Reading express and Reading eggs, Sumdog Maths and Reading; plus reading and spelling progress.
There is also a minecraft competition we are entering “Design your own Dream Home”. Students are welcome to work on this at home.
LOOKING AHEAD FOR THIS TERM:
Oroua Touch Tournament - Whole School
Our touch module from term 3 culminates with an Oroua Touch Tournament at the Kimbolton Domain this Thursday. All students need to be there by 9.30am. We will therefore need to leave school just after 9am. We will let you know the end time when we have more details. We need a parent to help manage the year 1 - 2 teams please. Please let Nicki or Christine know asap if you are able to help with transport to / from the event and/or managing a team. Students will need to wear full sports uniform and take a good lunch / snacks and water bottle. We would like to thank Brad and Crete for their tuition and organisation of the event.
Sport Manawatu PE Module - Athletics
Our next module is athletics. Could all students please be prepared daily with PE gear. We will begin practice next week in preparation for the Athletics Sports at the end of the term.
Every year a parent kindly tops up the long jump pit. If you are able to do this please let Nicki know … many thanks.
Lamb and Calf Day - Thursday 20th October
Please look at the link on the weebly. Click on links and information ...Term 4 … Lamb and Calf Day or click on this link .http://bit.ly/2cPnnuC
Students have decided on the learning tasks to be completed on the afternoon before/morning of Lamb and Calf Day. They are as follows:
- Miniature Scene in a roasting tray sized container showing how things work together
- Live arrangement in a decorated container e.g. decorated gumboot, egg cup, shoe etc
- Sculpture for an indoor / outdoor table using recycled materials
Students are encouraged to think about and plan these at home but they must be put together totally at school next week.
Note: We share all flowers and greenery to encourage creativity and thinking of others.
This week, at school, students will be completing their:-
- Poster to promote their country,
- Photo Essay (4-7 photos to tell a story visually)
- Presented Photo.
Students are encouraged to discuss their ideas with you and to take their photos in their own time. They can be sent to school via email (in large format) or shared on google drive or on a pendrive. If your child would like help with this please contact Nicki.
HELP PLEASE: Are you able to donate your spare pillows and cushions? We still need stuffing for a few of the students cushions. Just send them to school … many thanks.
Lamb and Calf Day also provides a real opportunity for students to complete a range of tasks in a set time. This helps students develop their time management skills; a skill that is extremely important both for high school and beyond. This Day also provides a great opportunity for our school to showcase student learning and celebrate success. This open day is a meaningful opportunity to present work from many areas of the curriculum, in a variety of formats.
This day consists of three parts : Indoor section in the morning, Outdoor section in the afternoon and Whanau Group section.

AIA Healthy Kids Challenge
Apiti Students will begin this challenge on the 26th of October. We are just waiting for the pedometers to arrive. Their real steps will be used to take them on a virtual adventure. Parents are also encouraged to join in. If you would like to know more, visit https://www.heathlykids.kiwi
Email from the AIA Healthy Kids Challenge Support Crew
Dear Parents
You may know that our class is participating in the AIA Healthy Kids Challenge. It's a fun virtual adventure around the globe, led by rugby star Cory Jane and his special guests. We all create our own little avatars and each child will receive a free pedometer to count steps in the real world that will move our team around the online race track. As our steps move us to a new destination, we see a video of our class of avatars exploring with Cory and getting some healthy tips too.
We need your help too! We'd love you to get involved so you can support and encourage your child to get moving more often and help us get more entries into the draw to win one of 20 $1000 AIA sporting grants for our school and one of 50 Huawei tablets for our classrooms. Simply join the Parents Class Team and count your steps to help move your team around the same course as the kids. Race against other parents teams, get active with your child and have some fun along the way.

Thank you for your support.
Community of Learning
Feilding Schools are joining to establish a professional learning group (Community of Learning). This is in the initial stages of development. As part of this School Principals will be visiting all of our Feilding and District Schools, including Apiti School on the 31st of October. We look forward to sharing with other education professionals in our area.
Bon Apiti
This term’s Healthy Lunches will be decided after Lamb and Calf Day.
Board of Trustee Meeting
At the last BOT meeting it was decided to do a survey. The first survey will be on Digital Technology in Apiti. To help us get feedback from the community and plan programmes and deliver them according to the community. Please send any ideas, questions to the school so they can be added to this survey. The next BOT meeting will be Monday the 31st of October, in the staff room starting at 7.00pm. All members of the public are welcome to attend.
Swimming Lessons
We have swimming lessons booked in at the Feilding Makino Aquatic Centre with 2 lessons per day on the following dates : Friday 28th October, Friday 4th, 11th, 18th November, 9th December We will leave school at 11.30am. Please mark these dates on your calendar. We would really appreciate it if you could email or ring Christine to let her know the dates you can help with transport as soon as possible. We understand the commitment and appreciate everyone doing their bit to make this a success.
The difference between a student’s swimming ability from the first to final lesson each year, their confidence in the water and our improved placings at the Oroua Swimming Sports over the years, demonstrates the value of our annual swimming programme. It is a great time to focus on swimming as we head into the holidays … a time when many students spend a lot of time in the water and around local rivers.
Reminders
- Students do not need cellphones at school for learning. We have a great range of learning devices at school. If your child needs to bring a phone to school it is expected to stay in their bag the entire time they are at school, unless they have organised with their teacher to use it for something particular.
- Please shut the entrance gates. These are temporary until we get our new fence.
- Please respect our school. Should your dog enter the school grounds, please clean up after it. Many thanks.
Thank you
