Celebrating our Learning ...
We are very aware that term 4 is a very busy term for everyone. Thank you all for going the extra mile to help out with transport recently e.g gymnastics, the skills and drills, Santoft. This really does enable all students at Apiti School to have enriched and comprehensive learning opportunities at our school. Your support is very much appreciated.
Mt Ruapehu Ski Accounts
Everyone should have received their account from the Mt Ruapehu ski trip. Please pay this account as soon as possible. Part payment on a regular basis would be acceptable.
Health Education
As mentioned in the last newsletter, Neil Buddle, Health Educator for schools from Family Planning, is working with our year 6 - 8 students. He will be teaching the NZ curriculum which can be found on the TKI site. This is what the Apiti School health curriculum follows. If you have any questions or queries please contact Nicki.
Oroua Junior Gymnastics
Junior students developed a huge range of gymnastics skills throughout the day. They also thrived on the opportunity to mix with students from the other Oroua Schools developing skills in a wider setting.
Oroua Art Festival at Manawatu Show
A group of Oroua Schools, including Apiti School, displayed their art at the Manawatu Show recently.

All students have been learning the skills of mountain biking with students from Kimbolton School and Phil, from Sport Manawatu and President of the Manawatu Mountain-biking Club.
This culminated with a day riding the trails in the Santoft Forest near Bulls. All students both enjoyed and learnt a lot from the event. Many have already asked if we can do it again next year!!
I lead the pack for the whole day behind Phil overcoming hills and
drops and finding all the jumps possible. Many exhausting parts of the track as
Phil took us deeper into the Santoft bike track. Groups of people, from
experienced down to first time bikers, achieved and learnt many different
skills. Remy and I pushed each other to the end, racing each other through the
thick, dense forest, over pine clippings and pine cones galore. Many times I
find rough sections of track and make jumps out of the soil. Lachie challenges
me to a jump off – the biggest jump. After a tired day biking, we all pack up
our gear, load the bikes up and make our way back to Feilding where Mrs Fielder
rewarded us with a swim at the Makino pools.

GRIP Leadership Conference
For the first time ever the GRIP Leadership Conference was held in Palmerston North this year. We were proud to have 8 students attend the conference. They learnt what leadership means and how they can continue to grow as leaders. All students reflected on its worth positively.
We arrived
at the GRIP leadership day which was at the Convention centre in Palmerston
North.
The room
was filled with about 250 other young leaders. The programme and format of the
day seemed really well planned out. I couldn't wait to get started and learn
new skills. When the presenter came out and started talking to us, one thing
stuck in my mind the whole time that he had said at the beginning. "
Everyone can be a leader" and it made me think that really ANYONE can be a
leader as long has they have the determination to achieve for themselves and
others. When we had the Loud noise section everyone was so excited. All the
activities that we did were ones that helped us meet people from other schools
and socialize. I found it very fun and easy to talk to others. We were all keen
to meet new people and have a great time so it was easy to talk to others from
different schools. I learnt what the
leadership meaning of Paper Scissors Rock is,
PAPER- Plan
SCISSORS- Take action ROCK- stay strong. - By Hannah.
VLN / ALLiS Leadership Team
At Apiti School we are committed to ensuring that students are well set up with the attitudes and skills to thrive in their future. As our closest neighbor, Asia continues to be a growing influence and economic partner. Apiti School is part of the steering committee for online learning of Asian Languages in schools with Virtual Learning Network Primary. Research shows that students who learn another language are more aware of those around them and can more readily pick up new languages.
All self managing senior room students will be encouraged to learn a new language through VLNP. This will allow them to learn a range of skills from learning a new language, learning in an online environment, to learning in an online classroom with students from a diverse range of backgrounds to time management.
This year we have established a VLNP leadership team (Brooke, Tyler, James). Their current goal is to learn to use the online learning portal, help new VLNP teachers learn the skills to teach online and to develop the skills as our VLNP leaders. They are currently learning Korean.
