Welcome to week 1 of term 4 2015 and a very busy term of learning and activities.

Welcome
We are delighted to welcome Ava and her family to Apiti school.  Ava joins us as a junior room student.  We know Ava will enjoy learning at our School.

School Times
A reminder that we are trialing revised school hours this term. Lunchtime will be 45 minutes long and school will finish at 2.45 every day. However, staff will be available until 3pm as usual.

Apiti School Young Achiever 2015 - Nikki McKinnon
Kia Kaha
Nikki has positively involved herself in every 2015 opportunity. Despite her challenges Nikki digs deep; steps outside her comfort zone and faces challenges and experiences with a can-do attitude. Examples include SUPBoarding, sailing and Apiti School Whanau group leadership.

Oroua Badminton Tournament - Tuesday 20th Oct.
This event is to take place in the Civic Centre in Feilding for the Year 5, 6, 7 and 8 students, starting at 9.00pm and finishing at 12.00.  
We still need transport for this event. If you can help, please let Nicki or Christine know a.s.a.p. 

Safety Issue
All students who have wheels at school eg ride a scooter, bike or roller skates/blades on the ramp, must wear a helmet and shoes please.

Assembly
Thank you to all those parents who attended the last assembly for term 3.  It was great being able to show-case the movies that the students put together for the Digi Awards.

Touch
It is great to see so many students keen to play touch again this year. We have entered a Year 5-6 team. Games are each Thursday in term 4.


Bon-Apiti
The Healthy Lunches will continue after Lamb and Calf Day.
  Health Education
Health educator, Neil Buddle will be joining us for health education on Tuesday afternoons this term.

Skiing 
Hopefully the weather is kind to us and it is all go for Thursday. Please read the ski details sheet for all the relevant information.  Click here for the details.  We will make a definite decision late Wednesday, (and this will be communicated by text) if the trip is to go ahead on Thursday after we have looked at the updated weather report. We know many transport arrangements have changed, if you are unable to organise transport for your children please contact the school. An account will be sent home after the event, please pay ASAP. 

Lamb and Calf Day - Thursday the 22nd October
Lamb and Calf Day provides a great opportunity for our school to showcase student learning and celebrate success. This open day is a meaningful opportunity to present work from many areas of the curriculum, in a variety of formats.


Date - Thursday 22nd October 2015
This day consists of three parts : Indoor section in the morning, Outdoor section in the afternoon and Whanau Group section.  


Programme
Students arrive at school, at the normal time, with required items for the indoor exhibits to be completed independently in the morning e.g Miniature Scene, Arrangement in a Pottery Vase and a Decorated Wind Chime.

9.00 - 10.15 :   Students complete Learning Tasks (Junior/Intermediate/Senior)
10.30 - 11.00 : Morning Tea.
11.00 - 12.00 : Judging of Indoor Individual Exhibits  
                     Students complete Whanau Group Learning Tasks.
12.00 - 1.00  :  Shared Lunch for Judges, families and visitors.
Calves / Lambs to arrive before 12.45.
1.00   :  Judging of Lambs commences (Junior/Intermediate/Senior/Pre-school)
           Judging of Calves commences (Senior/Junior)

The indoor exhibits will be open for viewing after judging.
The Whanau Projects can be viewed at any time through-out the day.
This will be followed by Prize-giving and afternoon Tea.   


We welcome families, friends, neighbours and all community members to our school for this day from 12 noon. The day will run wet or fine.  


Swimming Lessons

Once again we will give our students intensive swimming lessons, but this year the lessons will be held at the Ashhurst Swimming pool in Ashhurst as the Makino Pool is currently undergoing a major upgrade.  The dates are (all Wednesdays) : 4th, 11th, 18th, 25th November and the 2nd of December.   The Board has very generously agreed to subsidise these lessons by paying half, parents are expected to pay the other half please. It would be great if every family could help out with transport for these lessons please.  


Labour Weekend
School will be closed for Labour Weekend on Monday the 26th of October.  School will close on Friday at 2.45pm and re-open on Tuesday the 27th at 9.00a.m.

Thanks to Chrissy for having the school looking neat inside and out for the start of term and a big thanks to Mark for attending to the spring pump that had stopped working recently.  We appreciate all his time helping us out.
