Apiti School Electives
This term we are planning some electives to do in our breaks. We want them to be fun and to learn new skills along the way!
We have brainstormed lots of activity ideas.  Some of them will need to be done over a few days and others would better suit being done one day a week or as a one off learning activity.
These are some of the ideas we are interested in developing further: not all will be feasible due to time, material, expertise etc.

You may have some other ideas. If you have any skills or interests … or other ideas … we would love your help.
Senior students are organising these activities but many activities need adult supervision and specialised skills. Some also need equipment/materials organised in advance. We would love it if you have a little time to come to school and help us or run an elective group.
Our break times are 10.30 – 11.00, 12.30 – 1.15, 2.00 – 2.15 except Friday when we do not have our last break. We sit down to eat at the beginning of each break and would begin electives after this. Our days are flexible however!!
Please contact Nicki (or Christine on a Monday or Wednesday) if you are able to help.

Bark on Playground
A group of senior boys have chosen to spend their lunchtimes spreading our new bark on the playground. It really has made a difference … Well done boys.

Bon Apiti
For healthy lunches for the first half of this term we are doing Nachos.  They are $2.00 a plate.  These will start this Thursday the 26th of July.  If anyone could help out with donations of cheese,  corn chips or nacho flavouring, this would be very much appreciated.  -  BonApiti Committee.

Safe and Creative Programme
We have a great term of learning planned through our ‘Safe and Creative’ integrated unit.
We will be especially focussing on road and bikes, farm, self, first aid, internet, fire and natural disasters. Sometimes children have already had experiences in these areas that could affect their learning. If there is anything we should know or consider when teaching your child in any of these areas please contact Mary or Nicki.

Bikes
This Friday, with Constable Sarah Cree, we will be learning more about bike safety. Weather permitting; we will be doing activities on our bike to practice our learning. If your child has a bike, it would be great if they could bring it to school. Students are welcome to bring their bikes to school throughout the week if they would like to practice before Friday. Please go over your expectations with your child however before they bring their bike to school as it is their responsibility. We would suggest that the skateboard / scooter ramps can be a bit hard on most children’s bikes!

Lost Property
We have a few items of lost property at school, in the foyer.  Several socks of all shapes, colours and sizes, a couple of t shirts and a pair of black pants.  Please look through these when you are next passing through.  All of these items will be passed on to Manchester House or the Arohanui Hospice shop if unclaimed.

Answer Phone
Please do not leave a message on our answer phone as it has proven to be unreliable.
