NEWS
We would like to announce the successful applicant to our teacher vacancy. Louise Ilton who will be the permanent teacher in the senior room. Most people will know Louise who is the principal of Cheltenham School, and has also taught at Apiti previously as well as Rangiwahia and other schools. She is very experienced with many up to date skills both inside and outside the classroom. We are very excited to welcome Louise to our staff and look forward to working with Louise in 2017.

We wish Nicki, all the best in her new position as principal of Kiwitea School. Everyone is welcome to attend the final farewell assembly for the leavers and Nicki on the 19th Dec at 1.15pm. After the assembly we will adjourn to the Apiti Tavern to further farewell Nicki and her family. I’d like to officially thank Nicki for her years of service to Apiti School. She has been integral in developing Apiti School into the fantastic school it is today. The learning programmes the students have received have prepared them well for high school, as the high schools and the students will tell you. They know their learning journey and can share it well reflectively. There have been so many successes. As an ACET teacher she has been recognised by the MOE and Education Council. There are too many areas of Nicki’s expertise to name, but some include the Digi Awards, ICT programmes, updating our school weebly and e-portfolios, Triathlon, Speech Competition, Enviro Award, concerts, EOTC, financial literacy - Banqer, robotics, Year 8 camp, bush walks to name a few.  She has always gone well beyond the call of duty, and been there for all the students, and provided amazing programmes for them both inside and outside the classroom. We have been honoured to have her as part of our staff for the last 10 years - it has been a pleasure working with her. Thank you Nicki!

Public Health Services – MidCentral Health Immunisation Programmes
The Ministry of Health offers all students in Year 7 and 8 vaccination against:
·         Diphtheria / Tetanus / Whooping Cough ( acellular pertussis)   = All Year 7 students
·         Human Papilloma Virus (HPV)  = All Year 8 students.
Following recent changes to the National Immunisation Schedule, the School Based Immunisation Programme will be offering Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine to boys as well as girls in Year 8. This is a two dose vaccine programme with a 6 month gap between the doses. While the initial efforts of the HPV immunisation programme focused on cervical cancer prevention for women, increasing evidence has emerged in recent years of the impact of other HPV-related cancers on men. If you would like more information on this important Immunisation Programme please go to http://www.health.govt.nz/your-health/conditions-and-treatments/diseases-and-illnesses/cervical-cancer/hpv-immunisation
Public Health Nurses will be offering dTap and HPV vaccinations at all schools within the MidCentral District Health Board area during 2017. These vaccinations are free and given at the school during school hours or at a PHN community clinic. The vaccinations may also be given through your primary care provider (General Practice Team) at a time that suits you.
All parents will be provided with the relevant information and a consent form which will need to be completed and returned to the school as soon as possible.
Your child can commence the either programmes at anytime during the year. Please contact your Public Health Service for a consent form.
If you have any queries, you can contact the school Public Health Nurse by ringing
06 350 4560 or 0800 153 042.  -  Public Health Services.
