FAHS Robotics Outreach Programme

24.5.2016

Dear Apiti Parents of year 7-8 students,

We have just received this email from Mr Conlon at  FAHS. I think it will be a great opportunity for some students.
I am able to take students in but they will need a ride home.

FAHS – Feilding High School runs a highly successful robotics programme and we are now
running an outreach programme for junior schools called the Feilding High STEAM Centre.
STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) education is core of what
we do with robotics and is the base for our World Championship winning team.

The STEAM Centre runs in the school library every Thursday during term time from 3.30 PM
to 5.20 PM.  Schools who wish to participate can send teams of between three and five
students from Years 6 to 8 along with a robot.  We will accept up to three teams from each
junior school, but each team must have a robot.

The participation charge is $10.00 per child per term.  Parents pay this directly to us at the
Centre.

The only commitment schools need to make is to organise parent transport for their team(s)
and robot(s) to FAHS – Feilding High School after school on a Thursday, and get them home
afterward.  The parent is not required to stay, but is welcome to do so if they wish.
Teams can provide any robot, but we recommend the use of a VEX IQ starter kit.  The Vex
kits contain everything needed to build and run a competition level robot.  These kits cost
$425.00(+GST) from the Kiwibots store www.kiwibots.co.nz .  Apiti School is happy to support this..

At the STEAM Centre we will teach students all they need to know about programming, design, building and
driving their robot.

If your child is interested and you are able to help with transport please let me know,

Thanks …
