Sam Strahan Rippa Rugby Tournaments
Well done to both Rippa teams. Our Junior team reached the semi-finals and our Senior Team bought home the cup! It was great to see the commitment and teamwork of all students involved. Many thanks to Ben, Adam and Murray for coaching the teams.
Friday the 24th of April was the Manawatu Sam Strahan Rippa Rugby Competition for schools with under 100 students. We, Northern Oroua, had some pretty tough competition with teams from Waituna West, Linton Camp, Kiwitea, Hiwinui and Bainese. Last year we lost to Waituna West in the final so we are really hoping that we will go well this year.
A quick run around the field and some passes. We were ready for our first game against Waituna West ... Dun Dun Daaaaa!!!!!
Our starting team was Huntah, Logan, Lachie, Jacob, Hannah, Rupene and Ella and our subs were Aubyn, Aleisha and Brooke. It was a fairly easy game but one of the boys from Waituna West was small and speedy and he would zoom past our players. Because he was small, you had to bend down to get the rips and he scored a couple of the tries. At half time Brooke, Aubyn and Aleisha came on. The final score was  8-3 to us.
From here we had 4 more similar games and were pleased to make the final.
This was a nail biting game. Each time we scored a try they returned with a really quick try. It was really even. At full time we won by only a single point. The score was 8-7. When I watched the first half it was really frustrating to watch as we knew we had to win this year. I knew when I went on that I had to make a difference.
It was a great day. Thank you to the Turbos for organising it!  -  By Brooke
ANZAC Day  Congratulations to all on ANZAC Day at Apiti. There have been many positive comments about the students participation in the ANZAC commemoration. Huntah, James, the band, the ukulele orchestra, the singing, the poppy decorations and the ANZAC biscuits. Thanks to the organising committee and especially Pat. It was another inspiring day when the whole community came together.
Apiti Village Comes Alive!
The whole Apiti community and people from far and wide came together in the village to commemorate ANZAC day on the 25th of April!
Bagpipes start playing and everyone gathers for the march. The Apiti R.S.A lead the march with the soldiers close behind. Everyone closes in together to form a box shape. The sky starts to brighten up and we all wait patiently for the flyover to come.
It now was the time to lay the wreaths. Everyone was silent as they walk up, lay the wreath and we all pause to remember all our fallen soldiers that fought for our country.
Everyone then gathered inside the hall for the service. Apiti has so many people at the service, that we have to set up a speaker outside so that the people that can't squeeze into the hall can stand outside and still hear the whole service.
Apiti and Kimbolton have a ukulele group and they played 'In Flanders Fields' on the ukulele and I sang with a microphone. Then shortly after the whole of Apiti School sang three ANZAC songs. They were Daisy Daisy, Pack up your troubles and Maori Battalion. Then finally the Apiti School band performed. We played the drums, piano, guitar and we sang to 'It's a long way to Tipperary'.
After that we had a few speeches and that concluded the Apiti ANZAC service.
But that wasn't all as the Army let all the kids ride on the army vehicles. It was very interesting to see what the vehicles were like in the Army.   -   By Hannah.
Trail Ride  Many thanks to all those who made this happen, landowners, helpers and organising committee. We appreciate the support, as it is an important fundraising occasion for our school.  Check ASSA on the side link or click on this link http://apitischoolnewsletter.blogspot.co.nz/p/assa.html
Thank-You One and All!
Dear Land Owner
Thank you for letting us ride our motorbikes through some of your land which made the track really interesting.  Hopefully you will let us use it again next year if we need to.
We had close to 380 riders through the gate on the day and raised $9,000, which made the trail ride a huge success.  We will spend the money on new computers, library books and skiing. Again, thank you very much for your support.  Yours sincerely, Jackson and the Apiti Senior room students.
