Oroua Group of Schools Athletics Sports - Friday 28th November
This event happens this Friday the 28th of November (p.p date : 5th December), at Timona Park in Feilding.  Students need to be at Timona Park in time to assemble at 9.45 for the 10.00a.m start (Timona Park is off Simon St, which is the second on the left past the North St BP station on Kimbolton Road).  All students participate in this event.  Students need to wear their school uniform for the day please.  All students need to take a good packed lunch, plenty to drink, a hat, sunscreen and clothes that suit all conditions.  The playground and river are out of bounds to all children at all times!!  Parents, please make sure that this is emphasised to your children as they must stay away from these areas until the completion of the day and until the children are in your care.
The juniors (5, 6 & 7 year olds) will be dismissed at lunchtime (from 11.30 onwards) and then become the responsibility of their parents or caregivers.  The day is expected to conclude after the relays and prize giving at about 2.00pm for the senior students.  However, this is a guide only and parents should return to the park early in-case the programme finishes early.  Senior students lunch break will be about 12.05 to 12.35. There will be lots of food to buy at the Park.
Parents will need to provide transport for their own children and the bus will not run at all on this day.  If transport is difficult, please contact the school.  If this event is postponed due to weather conditions, an announcement will come over the radio from 7am onwards and the phone tree will operate. Parents are asked to help with the events our school is responsible for (senior high jump and junior ball throw), so please make yourself available at some stage during the day.

Makino Swimming / Feilding Market (TBC)
Our final swimming day will be Friday the 12th of December. Please email Christine a little closer to the 12th regarding transport arrangements for that day.
We are also hoping that Whanau groups will have the opportunity to man a stall at the Feilding market before their lessons on the Friday morning. All groups will be involved in developing their produce and whanau group leaders will man a shared stall. This is another great authentic learning opportunity. More details will be available when this is confirmed.

Final Assembly / Opening of our updated modern learning environment - 18th December at 1.30pm.

Keeping you up to date and celebrating our successes ...
School Renovations
Renovations are almost 100% completed and all learning spaces are looking fantastic. It has been great to observe student interest ... and excitement ... as the renovations have progressed. Many parents have also had the guided tour!!
Nicki and Mary would like to thank the BOT for their part in making this happen. The rooms are now light and up to date spaces and will be great to work in. The vertiface on the walls will make displaying work and creating interactive and engaging learning spaces so much easier!!

Student End of Year Celebration Day
Students are planning more about this soon.

Bush learning day
This was a short but effective bush afternoon, even though the weather let us down, we did achieve alot in the short time we were able to be in the bush!  Thanks so much for the great support we received from Rowena our Horizons enviroschools advisor and from Adam, Tim, Anette and Jock.

Junior large ball
Once again this was a time for Juniors from all the Oroua Schools to meet and participate in games
and sports. Thanks to Kiwitea and Kate Shannon who organise this for the group. On this day and in preparation for this day, the juniors develop many skills, not only ball skills, but key competencies: participating and contributing and managing self. The students from all the Oroua schools joined together to learn with and from others. The social interaction and listening to instructions were the winners on the day.  Thank you to those parents who provided transport to and from Kiwitea.

Meeting with the MDC
Our Wastebusters Whanau Group led by Hannah, met with the Manawatu District Council recently to look at options regarding the collection of our paper recycling.  The students found this meeting to be very educational and where given several leads to follow. Thank you to the MDC for their time and advise.
We are also collecting aluminium cans, so drop them off in our shed outside the school on Bryce St, the shed is unlocked.
Ski Accounts
These accounts have now been sent home, please pay at your earliest convenience.  Part payment on a weekly basis is acceptable, but would be appreciated ASAP.

School Photos
These will be taken by Svendson Photography next Monday the 1st of December at 9.30.  Please contact the school if you want a family or group photo taken. These will only be organised if we hear from parents. If the weather is really bad, we will postpone the photos until a later date.
