Bush Learning Day - Wednesday the 12th of November. (ppd 19th November)
The goal for this day is to introduce our new members of the school to our outdoor learning centre, and making a plan for a focus for each group and member to lead. We will be redefining our tracks, weed eradication and revisiting learning stations. We would appreciate help from any adults who can join us on this day, especially those with chainsaws and slashers. The bus will be available to help with transport but we would appreciate any parents or community members to help.

Athletics
George McConnarcy has been coaching our students through the Sport Manawatu programme. All students will be training for athletics and need to bring sports gear daily. This includes shorts or tights. If you are available to help with athletics practice please contact Mary or Nicki.

Oroua Group of Schools Athletics Sports - Friday 28th November
This event happens on Friday the 28th of November (p.p date : 5th December), at Timona Park in Feilding.  Students need to be at Timona Park in time to assemble at 9.45 for the 10.00a.m start (Timona Park is off Simon St, which is the second on the left past the North St BP station on Kimbolton Road).  All students participate in this event.  Students need to wear their school uniform for the day please.  All students need to take a good packed lunch, plenty to drink, a hat, sunscreen and clothes that suit all conditions.  The playground and river are out of bounds to all children at all times!!  Parents, please make sure that this is emphasised to your children that they must stay away from these areas until the completion of the day and until the children are in your care.
The juniors (5, 6 & 7 year olds) will be dismissed at lunchtime (from 11.30 onwards) and then become the responsibility of their parents or caregivers.  The day is expected to conclude after the relays and prize giving at about 2.00pm for the senior students.  However, this is a guide only and parents should return to the park early in-case the programme finishes early.  Senior students lunch break will be about 12.05 to 12.35. There will be lots of food to buy at the Park.
Parents will need to provide transport for their own children and the bus will not run at all on this day.  If transport is difficult, please contact the school.  If this event is postponed due to weather conditions, an announcement will come over the radio from 7am onwards and the phone tree will operate. Parents are asked to help with the events our school is responsible for (senior high jump and junior ball throw), so please make yourself available at some stage during the day.

Swimming - Starting this Friday 31st October
Once again we will give our students intensive swimming lessons at the Makino Pool in Feilding prior to the summer swimming and river fun!  The dates are Friday the 31st October, 7th, 14th, 21st November and the 12th of December.  Students will attend school for literacy and numeracy before we head off at 11.00am, as the first lesson starts at 12.00 and then the 2nd lesson starts at 1.00pm.  We will leave the pools at 2.15 and return to school in time for the school bus.  Students will need to take their togs, towels, lunch and a drink as the shop is out of bounds except on the last swimming day.  The Board has very generously agreed to subsidise these lessons by paying half, parents are expected to pay the other half please.  It would be great if every family could help out with transport for these lessons. Please let us know ASAP, when you can help.  thank you to the following parents who have offered to take transport this Friday.

Term 4 Inspirations
This term students will be focusing on people who inspire them and their future aspirations. We will be making gifts and focusing on our whanau action project learning on Monday and Wednesday or Thursday afternoons (2-2.45). We would love to hear from any school parents or community members who are free to help with this or have resources we could use.

Digi Awards - 6pm, 24th of November
We are thrilled to have so many finalists, especially in the movie making music and documentary area.  We are not sure yet how many tickets we will receive. The priority will be finalists followed by one family member. We will get more tickets if possible.

Congratulations to all our students who worked extremely hard on the indoor section displays, for being very innovative and imaginative and to all students who put alot of effort into raising a lamb or a calf - a real commitment!
We would like to say a huge thank you to all those who helped out in any way to make this day a successful day, especially to the Indoor Judges :- Rachel, Rosie, Pam, Tasha, Shelley and Julie and the Outdoor Judges:- Donna, Lance, Jason, Victoria, Sandie and Hamish (from Totally Vets).
To Totally Vets who so kindly donated the Ribbons and Rosettes (as they do every year), this is very much appreciated! Horizons who judged the Whanau Group displays - not an easy task.  Pat for writing out all the certificates.  June for supplying the yummy scones for the judges morning tea and for all the help cooking with the students.  To all the parents who supplied the great pot luck lunch and the yummy afternoon tea and who helped out in the kitchen.  Mike and Jess for manning the BBQ.  Ben and Hilton for supplying the scrim and calf ring.  Hilton for mowing the field - it looked great!  To all the parents for all the support given to the school for raising a lamb or a calf and of-course our great students and their lovely lambs and calves.  This day creates a learning opportunity which encourages children to learn the responsibility of just how to care for a lamb or calf.  This really is a community event and it was great to see so many parents, grandparents and community members here supporting the children.  Thank you to all parents who contributed to the great raffle. The well deserved winner of the raffle was Nikki.
Also on Lamb and calf day the Enviro schools Horizons team were here making a movie about us and the programme we do. We were the only Manawatu school chosen to showcase learning in a movie which is being made to promote Enviro schools. This movie will be used in first in the Rangitikei as the continue to work with schools and develop a facilitator position.

Congratulations to Nicki
Nicki has been selected to fill 1 place for the Aspiring Principals course for next year.

Dishes can be collected from the staff room.  Thanks very much once again to Mrs Prince for all her efforts getting the food out and doing dishes - no small task!  A reminder that we all need to help and get involved towards sharing the load and making these days a success.  Thank you. Fiona.
