Congratulations
We must begin by congratulating all of our students ... last Friday we delivered a pendrive with 50 entries for the digi awards. Some were individual entries and others were groups. Overall it is great to see the standard of entries we put in improving each year. Students put a lot of time and effort into every facet and the learning was huge. Some videos took up to 6 takes before students were happy with their filming! Now we wait to see how the judges view our creations!!
Well done to all of our students and many thanks for supporting your children at home.

Today we welcome Mrs Diane Leggett toour school. She will be working with Mary and Nicki on our principal and staff appraisals and with the BOT to further develop our Strategic Plan. As per our Treaty of Waitangi procedure and our good old Apiti hospitality the Bon Apiti Committee will be providing lunch, morning and afternoon tea. Thanks June for helping with this.

There is a Board of Trustees meeting tonight at 7pm. Everyone is very welcome.  Please view the Agenda by clicking on the BOT Tab.

Skiing
Unfortunately due to the weather looking unsettled it is looking unlikely that the ski trip will happen this Wednesday, but this will definitely be confirmed tomorrow (Tuesday).  We will otherwise plan for the trip to happen either Monday, Wednesday or Thursday of next week depending on weather and lesson availability.  Please remember that we do try to make the best call we can so our students can get the very best out of this opportunity.  Please let us know if your situation changes from that organised for this Wednesday. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience caused.  If the ski trip is postponed this Wednesday, it will be school as per usual.

Blue Light Camp
We wish Zahn and Travis a great weekend away and look forward to hearing all about their trip on their return.

Basketball Festival- Tuesday the 23rd of September
We have our last lesson tomorrow. Students are now practising in preparation for our Basketball Festival which is being held in Feilding on Tuesday the 23rd of September for the Year 3 and up students (Years 1 & 2 students - it will be school as normal with Mrs Cuming). We will require transport for this event please. Please let Christine know by Monday the 22nd if you are able to help.
We need to be in Feilding at the Civic Centre by 9.30 so we will need to leave Apiti School by 8.50. Students may leave straight from home or arrange pick up from home or school. The tournament will finish by 2.15pm.  We will be home in time for the bus run.  Students will need to take their lunch, a drink and wear their school uniform please.

Zero Waste / Student led reporting conferences
This will be depending on the ski trip date. .Shirley will be working with students, teaching units from the Zero waste programme.
We will also have our termly student led reporting conferences on these days. These are a valuable opportunity for your children to share and celebrate their learning and progress with you and to set on-going goals and next steps for their learning. We would appreciate it if you could book your slot on our booking sheet as soon as possible so we can plan the timetable to accommodate everyone. If you have any questions just ask Mary or Nicki.

Winter Sport
As winter sport comes to an end, we will be looking at the season for each of our codes. This week we take a look at netball.

Hannah and Zahn's team ...
This Year Apiti, Colyton and Bunnythorpe combined to put in an intermediary grade Netball team.
This was a great experience to meet and play with other year 7&8 students. An example of this was at one of our games we all learnt how to play as a team and use everybody's skills and because of that we won 28-6.
I found it a useful way to show my netball skills and meet new people. I thought that we all settled to each other as a team very well. Everyone had their own skills and everyone learnt to play the same game. It was great to try a variety of different positions!
We started being down there and still working on team play to being way up there and reading the game properly. My favourite position to play was GD because my height came into good use there. It took us a couple of weeks to develop strategies but when we did we were on fire. It was great to try a different mixed team! - By Hannah

Well done Hannah ... She was awarded most consistent player of the season ... for the 4th year in a row. Quite an achievement!!

Sarah's team ...
I really liked going to netball this year.  We have to practice at the park on Wednesday and our games are on Saturday.  It is fun meeting friends from other schools there.  I like playing Centre and Goal Defence.  The game I liked the best was the last game of Netball because that's when we got the trophies and medals.  We won all the games except the first game.  Every week we had fun because I got to see my friends and we got to play against older teams too.
I hope to play next year and win every game.  I hope I can play even better next year. - By Sarah.

Summer Hockey
I am helping to organise the Oroua junior summer hockey : years 3 & 4 Tuesday afternoon at the Palmerston North Turf.  The hockey runs for 6 weeks from Oct 14.  Umpires are provided and the team play one game each week. In the past, our practices have been minimal and our kids learn a lot during the game time.
I will be going in each week and am happy to take other children.
If your child is interested please give me a call.  -  Katherine. 3284 747 / 027 2965 917.
