Oroua Schools Cross Country
A reminder that this event will be happening this Friday - June the 21st at Waituna West School (postponement date: 28th June). All children are expected to be there on the day. Could we ask that all parents be a marshall on the course at some stage of the day.
It is about accepting challenges and working towards succeeding!
Students will need to be at Waituna West School by 10.00am please. All children (with adults) will walk the course starting at 10.15, guides will walk the course with each age group.
Welcome at 10.45. Races will start at 11.00 am. Boys and girls will run together but results will be recorded separately.
11.00 - 7 year old race. 11.15 - 8 year old race. 11.30 - 5 year old race.
11.45 - 6 year old race. 12.00 - 9 year old race. 12.15 - 10 year old race.
12.30 - 11 year old race. 12.45 - 12+ year old race.
The 11 and 12 year olds run about 3.5kms.
Children run in the age group that they are on the day. Certificates will be awarded after each race.
The course may be muddy and there will be some water to negotiate for the older children, so please make sure students take a change of footwear and clothes as they may get wet and dirty.
The course has changed as some paddocks have been put into crop, however the Native area has grown significantly and now obstructs views of some of the course. Parents are able to watch their children from positions on the course as long as you keep off the track and out of the way of competitors.
Students will need to take warm clothing including a warm hat, their lunch, a water bottle and suitable footwear for running in. Students will need to wear their school sports uniforms please.
Parents are required to transport their own children to this event please, however if you have difficulty with this, please let Anwyl know as soon as possible. If parents do not stay to support the runners, please make sure you return in time for pick up at 1.30pm. The school bus will not run at all on this day.
There will be sausages and other hot food, drinks, tea, coffee and baking for sale throughout the day.
The phone tree will operate if this day is postponed and it will be school as per usual, but we would request that no student be dropped off at school before 8.45 please as Mrs Minnaar will not be at school before this time on Friday if the cross country is postponed. Mrs Jenny Black will be teaching in the junior room on Friday. Please find a revised phone tree attached. Would everyone be happy to have their cell phone numbers placed on the phone tree - just in-case the phone lines are down at any stage.
Many thanks to Katherine for helping the students train and for running with the students.
Also many thanks to Katherine and Jess who transported several students to Waituna West School recently to run the course.
Music
Music will be every Monday and Jo has requested that those students who are learning music and are learning an instrument must bring them along every Monday please. Practicing your music and your instrument at home would be very beneficial.
Mary Away on Sabbatical Leave
Mary leaves tomorrow (Thursday 20th), on her trip away overseas. We wish Mary all the very best on her sabbatical (we will be thinking of her bathing in sunshine over the next 12 or so weeks, while we will be experiencing winter back here), however we will look forward to hearing all about it on her return
While Mary is away, for the next two weeks Mrs Minnaar will be teaching in the junior room and Mrs Kingsley-Wightman (Rangiwahia principal) will be in the senior room. During the last week of term 2, Mrs Burton will be back and will be in the junior room while Mrs Minnaar moves back to the senior room. Ms Fielder will be back at the beginning of Term 3 and will of-course be in the senior room and Mrs Minnaar will be in the junior room until Mary returns mid September. Please find Mrs Minnaar's phone numbers on the phone tree.
Safe travels Mary!
