2012.10.29

Welcome to week 3 of term 4, 2012.  We hope you all had a really nice Labour weekend.

The integrated learning focus for term 3 was 'Safety through Creativity'. Creativity has been our overall focus for 2013 and we have woven this through all learning areas. We have included a wide range of opportunities for learning in Safety; Police Education Programme, First Aid, Kia Kaha, Cyber Safety, Life Education. Students demonstrated their learning using a range of creative mediums. These are also showcased to a wider audience through events such as the digi awards, lamb and calf day and the Feilding and District Art Society exhibition. The students were more confident this year when using ICT as a medium to demonstrate their learning; graphic design, photo and photo essay. All students focused on the criteria for the entries and many were eagerly watching the site to see if they were selected for the finals! We are very proud of our achievements in Information and Communication technology, and are well known as being a lead school in this area.

Reading Eggs
After our 1 month trial, our students believe that 'Reading Eggs' is a worthwhile interactive learning site. We have therefore registered and paid for an account for each student. Please encourage your children to use this tool at home as it is a motivating site to improve reading skills. Your child has their password and log in details. Please ask Mary if you would also like a copy.

Targa Rally
Days like this really do take a lot of team work and once again we showed what a great school and rural community we have. Many people offered to do their little bit to make this a success - special thanks to Jan Holdaway, Wendy B, Tania, Maryann and Vic for marshalling on the roads.
All students watched some of the cars as they tooted and waved on their way past the end of Bryce St and some students helped marshalling and watched part of the race. The students account will be $300 richer from this. Thanks especially to Jock who facilitated planning. As you can see below it motivated some expressive writing.
Senior Room Targa Rally Stories
As the Ferrari crept closer, the noise got louder.  Black, yellow, red, the colour of expensive cars.  The flock of rich people zoom past and they leave us some dust.  I would maybe want a career of driving Ferraris.  What courage they have to drive their flash car in a mucky, dirty Targa race.  -  Hannah.
As the first race car burned around the corner, I knew the next car would be in sight soon.  The next car is finally at the 'time station.'  When I saw Cole walk past, I was going out for the first race, I yelled out to Cole, then we had a little chat, then the time had come - the third car was right behind the second car.  The second car and third car got their magnificently fast time and then parked up beside where we were standing.  -  Stanley.
As I get around the corner, the cars were zooming past.  The sound was so loud.  It was like Lions roaring.  Everyone was cheering for all the flash cars.  We waved to the cars and they waved back, it was really fun.  -  Lacey.
They were all flash cars, but my favourite was the little red and black car, it had lots of space because it was wide with a low roof.  -  Travis.
I jumped with excitement as the first car raced past the finish line.  The 2nd car was just coming around the corner.  "Johnny can you stop eating all the lollies please," Hannah yelled as Johnny scoffed two lollies down his mouth.  -  Brooke.
Wow! this guy sounds like he is going hard! crash! boom! aahh! "Mum, someone has had a crash! We have to go and help them" I exclaimed.  We all race over to the bridge but then realise its too dangerous.  We call out to see if they are alright, but they just keep on shouting.  I guess they have to wait to the end of the race. - Cole.
We were cheering for them as they went past.  They waved at us as we wave to them when they went past.  they went past my house fast.  It was fun watching them race past.  -  Pixel.
My ears filled with cheering and honking.  we waved and cheered as the cars went by.  I jumped with excitement looking at the cars.  Everyone who went past waved even the people who weren't in the race! as they drifted by.  -  Charlotte.
"Fast! fast! fast!" I yelled, as the fastest car I saw went past.  "Stop, stop! your helmet is on top of your nice car."  "Thanks" the car driver said.  "Your tyres are hot."  -  Ben
