Welcome to week 7 of term 3, 2012.

Happy Birthday to the following student, we hope you have a great day!  Sarah - 30th August!

Junior Room - Maths Achievement = Sumdog - Our students are highly motivated by different computer activities such as Sumdog, it is a great way of learning mathematical knowledge.  Tyler's animal rank now is a narwhal, as he has won 1,028 coins.  Alex's animal rank is a chimpanzee as he has won 354 coins.  Well done to Tyler and Alex!

What's been happening...
Working bee
Thank you to all those who were able to help out at the school working bee. There is more wood to be cut and split which needs to go into the shed. The students are available to help load and stack, if there is someone with a truck or trailer to cart it to the shed. There are trees to plant and the bark to finish. If you have a spare half hour or so, we would really appreciate it. Thanks to Nipper for moving the cut trees with his tractor, so we could cut them up and Kevin for the use of his paddock.  It was great to see 3 generations of Digby's here to help on Thursday, Hilton, Christine, Adam, Chonee and Kealee! Also thanks to Blair, Jock, Katherine, Mervyn and Yvonne, and anyone I may have missed. Later we will need to burn the remains so if you are able to help then, please let us know.
You are welcome to come and see our great new shade house, thanks to Hilton, who has worked with the students planning and constructing tables and benches for all students heights. We are looking forward to using it and filling it with plants.
Thanks to Maryann and her father for the opportunity of going to the final rehearsal of "Chess" for free. It was a great show and the students were able to see Andrew Jamieson and other actors professionally. We are hoping this might be a yearly opportunity.
Hockey training continues in earnest, we would appreciate refs during lunchtime and afternoon practices. Thanks Tania and Kate for coaching and managing the team on Tuesdays and Thursdays 2.15-3pm. However as we often have to work around the weather, we are not always able to have it on specific days so we are always open to other alternate days.
The Oroua Competition is on the 14th Sept pp 21st Sept and the team will need transport to the Manawatu turf please.
Skiing, we have put 3 dates on the calender :- Tuesday the 18th Sept, Thursday 20th Sept and Tuesday 25th Sept.  Please indicate to us which dates you are able to provide transport for. For a successful day it is very important to choose a fine day, and the weather forecasting these days means we are able to decide the day before. We will also need the forms filled in and returned to school ASAP once these have been sent home to you.

Healthy Strawberry
On Thursday everyone will be given a strawberry plant to care for until judging on Lamb and Calf day. They will need a plastic bottle, fizzy drink, water, juice or milk bottle. These can be cut in anyway to make a hothouse top, stand, or hung with holes in for drainage. They will be kept at school until the end of term and taken home for the holidays. The students may use any soil or get potting mix from school and can use worm wee from school or any products to help their strawberry plant grow.

Board of Trustee Meeting
The next Board meeting is Monday the 3rd of September, starting at 7.30pm in the school staff room.  All members of the public are welcome to attend.  Please view the agenda and minutes of the previous meeting by clicking on the B.O.T tab at the top of the newsletter.

Golf - Stephen Wood
Due to unforeseen circumstances, Stephen was unable to make it up here last Monday, so it will be  rescheduled.

Waste Busters
In the last few years, there has been an ever increasing amount of news about the dangers of Bisophenal A or BPA.  You might not know what BPA is.  BPA is a dangerous chemical in plastic.  Strong scientific evidence links it to a number of serious health problems, and more importantly babies are more likely to be at risk because of the plastic bottles they use. We would like to encourage everyone to use BPA free plastic containers for lunches. They are safe and save our environment.
We are selling lunch containers at school to make it easier for you. 50 cents from each sale will be donated to the SPCA or Starship hospital. Just give your order to Logan or Brooke  - Logan.

Cycling
Just a little reminder that there is cycling every Thursday with Mrs Gillespie.  Remember to bring your bike and your safety gear.  - Ben.

Bon Apiti
We would like to thank the Wills, Gillespies and Bethwaite/Hellberg families for donating nacho chips for the Bon Apiti.   - Cole for the Bon Apiti Commitee.

Expert Plantagators - Shade House Plan
From the 9/08/12 - 16/08/12, Grand-dad (Hilton), Stanley, Jack and I started and have finished building benches for the different height of people to work at different levels.  We have already started to box-up for some gravel to sit on the bottom of our shade house. Our next step is to measure up how much shade cloth we will need to hang around the outside.  For the door we are going to cut out some shade cloth to make a roller door.   -  Huntah.

Weedbusting
Last Wednesday and Thursday we went up to the Apiti bush and I was the camera man for the weedbusting video.  I really enjoyed being back and walking in the bush.  - Stanley

Winter Warmers Reading Programme
Thank you Mrs Hogan for letting us enter your competition. We would like to do it again. Thank you for letting us share it with you.  Thanks for the noodle cup, they came in handy and also the gel pens that we can colour in with.  Thanks for the free book.  The book will be good because we can develop our reading skills.  My favourite part was getting the book and the noodle cup.  A big thank you to the sponsors, especially the Feilding Library.  It will be fun if we could do it next year.   - Jack.
