Ski Trip to Turoa - Friday 8th September
We are all booked in for our ski experience visit to Mt Ruapehu this Friday the 8th of September. Unfortunately, the weather is not looking all that good for Friday but we will make a definite decision late Thursday if the trip is to go ahead, after we have checked out the updated weather report. It simply is not worth going if the weather is at all doubtful. Sorry it’s short notice, but that is the nature of snow activities!
If the trip is postponed Friday, we will hopefully be able to go on Monday the 11th of September.
A reminder that we need to be up the mountain by 8.30 as the ski lessons begin at 9.30a.m and we need an hour to prepare everyone with their ski’s, poles etc.
I recommend a departure from Apiti by 6.15 (after having a substantial breakfast), to meet at Ohakune by 8am by the Information Centre on the left hand side on the Main Street as you enter the Ohakune township. From there, we will head on up the mountain for a great day’s skiing. We will hopefully be able to ski all day until the mountain closes at 4.00pm. Please do not expect your children to arrive home until quite late, as they may stop for tea on the way home.
If this trip is postponed on Friday, it will be school as per usual.
Suggested equipment for the day (all named please) :- Waterproof jacket and pants. Warm layers of clothing to account for changable conditions. Warm, waterproof gloves or mittens. Warm headgear (e.g. beanie). Goggles and / or sunglasses. Named gumboots or sturday footwear. Sunscreen for exposed skin and lips.
Packed lunch (take plenty - double your lunch). Drink in refillable bottle - not soft drink. High energy snacks.
