Hannah is also going to star in the Manawatu Standard as a Bright Star.

Oroua Athletics
Congratulations to everyone, parents and students alike, for their commitment to the Athletics this year. Once again it was a great Oroua event. Thanks to Kiwitea for their organisation. We were lucky with the weather for the most part. It was such a shame however that the seniors were unable to complete the last 2 rounds and the relays!
Well done Huntah - 2nd Senior Boy overall and Hannah - 3rd Senior Girl overall.
All certificates will be given out at our final assembly.

Well done to Jackson who now knows all his timestables.  Dylan now knows his 7x and Travis is working on his 7x and Nikki on her 6x.

What's coming up and learning opportunities on the horizon ...

Gold Rush
We have been invited to Kiwitea School to see their production of "Gold Rush" on Monday 15th December at 1.15 . We plan to leave here at 12 to spend lunchtime with them. They have a great new turf so this is an opportunity to try it out. We will be back in time for the bus. We are pleased to be invited, as they support our production each year by attending our dress rehearsal. This is another opportunity for our students to get ideas for our production and to mix socially with friends in the Oroua group. We like to learn from other schools and we had a very successful day at Waituna West watching 'Bad Jelly the Witch,' swimming and learning about their bee hives.  Please let us know ASAP if you can provide transport.

Annual Bush Walk
It is all go for 11th Dec (pp 17th Dec). Jimmy Warren has kindly organised a great walk for us. It is suitable for all walkers and we welcome all members of the community to come with us. We will leave school at 9am or you can meet us at the end of Limestone Road at the DOC car park. We are walking through private land until Coal Creek and from there we will be in DOC forest park. We will head up to Short track to check giant Rata, then back along Deer Ford track 35-40 mins to where it crosses Coal Creek. There is a great picnic spot for lunch. We'll head up the creek 30 mins to see the red boulder (very unusual in a greywacke area) and then head for home in time for the bus run.  We suggest all carry a small day pack, with a change of socks and don't forget your rainproof jacket. Everyone will need to be well prepared with suitable walking shoes, (for crossing small streams) a jacket, warm weather gear, sunblock (can be shared). Please take plenty of high energy food and a small water bottle.
A walk in our local bush is a annual event at our school, at this time of year, where everyone can learn in and about their local environment  We will be watching the weather carefully and use the 17th our postponement date if required. Please let us know if you are planning on coming with us.

Makino Swimming / Feilding Market
We have our final Swimming lessons this Friday, (the 12th). Students in group 1 and 2 (swimming in the length lanes) will need to bring clothing for the survival lessons.
We have also hired the inflatables for a short time to allow students to practice their skills and make the most of the outdoor pool. This is also a valuable social opportunity as we will be sharing it with a range of Feilding schools.
Whanau group leaders will head to town early with Nicki to sell our sustainable produce at the Feilding market. We will be sharing a stall with Manawatu Community Health. Selling to real people in a real market environment such as the Feilding Market allows students to take learning to a new level. These students will then head to the pool in time for their first lesson.  Please email or ring Christine if you are able to help with transport.

Drums
Students learning drums will have their final lesson with Nitasha for the year this Monday (not Tuesday as it usually is). We would like to thank Tasha for her ongoing commitment to this. The students have learnt so much in the course of the year.

School Reports
The students reports will be uploaded to their record keeping page this week. Please contact the school if you would like us to print you one. Also please feel free to discuss any aspects of your students education with us by making a suitable time.

BOT Meeting - 15th December
The final Board meeting for the year will be next Monday the 15th of December in the staff room starting at 7.00pm.   All members of the public are most welcome.

17th December - Student planned celebration day
This is currently being planned by students and will be held at school.

18th - Final Assembly / ASSA AGM
As you know we have our production in the middle of the year, so this is a low-key final assembly starting at 1.30pm. We will however be officially opening the updated modern learning environment as the senior room and library have had an interior up-grade. Everyone is welcome!
The AGM of ASSA will follow the assembly. We will need help to take the pool cover off and bring the bubble cover back to the pool and put the big mats.

Ski Accounts
Thank you to those who have already paid their ski accounts.  Could those who still need to pay, please do so as soon as possible as settlement before end of term would be very much appreciated.

Uniforms
Please have all uniforms returned to school by early next week for Mrs Prince to re-organise for 2015.  If you feel your child needs a larger size in any of the uniform items e.g pants, top etc, please write a note and enclose it in the bag with the returned uniform.  Thank you.

Library Books
We would like all library books returned to school a.s.a.p please.  Once we have collated all books, children will be able to take out new books for holiday reading.

Keeping you up to date ...

Thanks
Thanks to those who have taken transport recently i.e Kiwitea for the Junior Large Ball Day, to Waituna West to watch the 'Bad Jelly the Witch' production and to swimming.

Special thanks to all the Apiti Staff. We really appreciate the time you spend over and above the call of duty for the school and the education of the students.
Thanks to all parents and community members for your support of the school, especially BOT and ASSA.
And last but not least the students. We have an amazing group of learners, who are focused on independent learning. Using our authentic contexts for learning they are motivated to learn and achieve at high levels.
The year book magazine will be out soon. This will go to all families. Please contact the school if you would like a copy.

Thanks to Adam for mowing the school field during the weekend, it looks great.

End of Year
School will close for the year on Friday the 19th of December at 3.00pm and re-open on Thursday the 5th of February 2015 at 9.00a.m.
