2012.3.19

Welcome to week 7 of term 1, 2012. Wow, only 3 weeks of term 1 left already!!
We were thrilled to receive our recent ERO report. It really does reflect learning at Apiti School. It is a public document and will be uploaded to the Ministry of Education website. If you have not seen a copy yet, please pick one up from the school office.
It is the time of the year when we learn in a new environment outside the classroom. Many senior students have learnt a lot from their camp organisation. Tomorrow the plan is put into action!!

What's Happening:-
Education Outside the Classroom - Annual Camp
This event is happening tomorrow (Tuesday the 20th), until Thursday the 22nd. Thank you to all parents for filling in and returning all relevant forms.
Blair has kindly offered his trailer for transporting gear to Wanganui. We will meet at school to finalise packing. We aim to leave school at 8am.
Thank you to those parents who have offered transport to and from Wanganui and who have offered to stay and help on camp.
Students are most welcome to bring scooters / skate-boards and appropriate safety gear for the skate park. Please consider that before any electronic gear is bought on camp, or even to school, that the teachers / parent helpers cannot be responsible for any damage incurred or lost. Cell phones will be given to the teacher at night time. Any gear including torches will be removed if mis-used. Please remember to name all gear that is brought on camp as this makes it much easier for the children as well as the teachers.
Students are able to bring along up to $10.00 each for spending money e.g souvenirs, not food.
Our Spirit of the River jet boat tour ends at Pipiriki at 4.30pm. We will be heading home from there on Thursday. It takes about 2.5 hours. Children will be dropped at home on our return. Please find the transport list attached. If you need any further information, please ring Mary or Nicki.
School will commence at 10.00am on Friday (after camp).

Oh no!! It’s that horrible noise again. That noise means its time to run and run fast. The noise is so terrifying you could almost melt to death before you even start. As the butterflies swerve around my stomach I sprint off in a rush. 5th at the moment. Now I'm fourth! Wait, now I'm starting to remember something. Something that if I forgot, I could lose this race, maybe not even finish! Oh no! My inhaler!! I forgot to take it.
Now my throat is blocking up and its getting hard to breath. Now I can’t breathe at all. I have to stop I tell myself, but I deny it for a few more seconds. Then I can’t go any more air. A DNF is not going to look good. I head back to our car and grab my inhaler.
Next the year 8 race starts. 2 minutes into it, I decide I'm not leaving without trying my hardest. So I sprint to their race and gave it all I had, even though they were 2 minutes into it. I beat one person in the run. I jumped on the bike and did double what the year 6s did. Again I beat another kid. I leaped off the bike and lucky Tessa was there to be my manager. Feeling like jelly we raced to the pool. I did 8 laps while the Year 6s did 6 laps. I had only just managed to run to the finish line when Lauren asked me what I was doing. I explained it all to her and came eleventh. By Cole
Lots of things were floating through my stomach at the moment. Including guilt, and lots and lots of butterfly's. My thoughts got cut off as soon as Mr Richardson came into view! Now a new person had joined the party in my stomach Mr Nervous. Mr Richardson muttered out all of the distances. I still felt sorry for not having time to manage Logan. Wheep! The sound of terror ran trough my ears.A sound that made my legs flying off without me. I had started off into a sprint. When I got to the first corner I paced out into a jog..... suddenly I knew I was going to win. By Tom
