Apiti School and District Newsletter

Term Dates :
Term 3 - 1st August - 7th October.
Term 4 - 25th October - 19th December.

Welcome to week 3 of term 3, 2011. Unfortunately due to the weather, school was closed for the day. Hope to have everything back to normal again tomorrow.

We would like to welcome Ryan and his family to our school family. Ryan is a brand new five year old and we know Ryan will enjoy his school years learning at Apiti School.
We would like to wish Cole all the very best at his new school and look forward to seeing him and his family back here sometime in the near future.

Northern Oroua Rugby and Netball Trials
Last Thursday, some of our senior room students attended netball and tackle rugby trials at Kimbolton for the Northern Oroua Schools (Apiti/Rangiwahia/Kimbolton) 10 aside rugby team.
Well done to all those who were keen to trial for these teams. The next trial will be this Thursday (18th). Those selected will be notified when the teams are finalised. Thanks to Jock and Doug Brodie (Rugby) and Jo Eastwood for their part organising and coaching the team. Thanks also to Sheree and Nipper, Megan for helping with transport.

Hockey
A big thank you to Tania for offering to transport and support those interested in playing hockey at Waituna West school. This will be each Monday for the next 5 weeks as from today.

Learning about Glass
Over the next 3 weeks we will be learning about glass, a little bit of history, how it is made and used. This links well with our technology focus and inquiry as to "how it works." Ben visits us on the 23rd of August and then we will spend time learning at his workshop in Kimbolton for the remaining two sessions (30th August and 6th Sept). We will require help with transport for this learning. Please contact Nicki or Mary if you are able to help with this.
Board of Trustee Meeting
The next Board of Trustee meeting has been changed to Monday the 22nd of August (not the 17th as previously advertised), in the school staff room, starting at 7.00pm. All members of the public are welcome to attend.
Please click on the Board of Trustee tab at the top of our newsletter blog to view the agenda and the minutes of the previous meeting.

Mt Ruapehu Ski Trip
We have penciled in this trip for Wednesday the 7th of September with the p.p date being Wednesday the 14th of September.
First Aid Course
A first aid revalidation course (held every three years to update your first aid certificate) undertaken by Links Training, will be held at Apiti School sometime during September. If you are interested in attending this course, please let Mary, Nicki or Christine know as soon as possible.

Happy Birthday to Alex who celebrates his birthday today. We hope you have a great day!

That's it for this newsletter folks, see you again in a fortnight.
Regards, Mary, Nicki, Mary B, Pat and Chris.

Scholastic Books
Please send your Scholastic Book order form along with payment to school on or before Friday the 26th of August.
You may not be aware, but with every order we place with Scholastic, they donate books to our library for free (how many books donated, depends on the amount ordered). - J. Beard.
