We would again like to take this opportunity to thank Sonya for the amazing way in which she approached the school caretaking job during the past 4 years. Sonya was always extremely fastidious with the gardens and lawns and took great pride in keeping the grounds looking immaculate. During the past few years there has been several comments from visitors to our school regarding the picturesque surroundings and this is in no small way due to Sonya's dedication to keeping our school grounds looking great. Thank you Sonya for your dedication to the job.

Book Fair
We will have the Book Fair running during the week of the 18th to 22nd October. This will be set up in the school library for you to view any time during school hours during that week. Lamb & Calf Day would be a great day for everyone to have a look at the great books on display and to place orders in time for Christmas. The school benefits in way of receiving free books from Scholastic from the amount sold.
Enviro Reflection
This Thursday we will welcome Jan, John and welcome back Christine Morrison to our school. We will all share with them our Environmental action and our vision for sustainability. Together we will decide if we are working at a level suitable to be awarded our Green-Gold Enviroschool's award. The day is rather jam-packed as we have alot to share in the time available. If you would like to see the timetable for Thursday, it is on the wall in the school foyer. We will be sharing our learning and vision both at school and at the bush. Students will therefore need to bring gumboots and suitable clothing to visit the bush on Thursday.
Oroua Netball
This Friday, we are still planning on having netball. We are still training throughout the week. Sausages, snacks and refreshments will be available for purchase throughout the day. If you are unable to take your child, can you please contact the schoo

This netball tournament is being held at the South Street Netball Courts in South St, Feilding this Friday the 15th of October for our Year 4 - 8 students. Students need to arrive at the courts by 9.45 and the day should conclude by 2.00pm. Students are asked to wear their school uniform please and will need to take their lunch and a drink, sunscreen and a hat if the weather is hot and warm clothing if the weather is cool.
Swimming Lessons
Each year at Apiti School, we take the whole school into the Feilding Makino Pool for swimming lessons. We have developed a plan for our students in conjunction with the National swimming advisers and coaches and the Makino Pool staff, to action a swimming programme which will give the students the best opportunities to learn to swim and water safety. The students have a swimming lesson at 11.00- 12.00 and then a break and their second swimming lesson at 12.30 till 1.30. After that they are able to practise what they are learning. Students will be assessed and taught in ability groups. Students will need their togs, 2 towels and goggles.
Once again, The Board of Trustees have kindly offered to subsidise 1/2 the cost of these lessons, which means these lessons will cost you $25.00 per students. The dates for swimming lessons are :- 22nd & 29th of October and the 5th, 12th & 19th of November. More information and transport slips will come home closer to the time.
Enviro map update
We would like to thank current student; Nastia and past students; Jessica, Rebecca and Nicole for helping paint our Apiti mural scene in the school holidays. This forms the basis to our updated Apiti School Vision Map for Sustainability. It begins with the small streams in the Ruahine Ranges and maps them as they wander through the Apiti farmland and head out to sea.
Bon Apiti
We begin the term with our 'Healthy Baked Potatoes'
We would especially like to thank the Corbett's for donating all of the potatoes we have used!

Photo reflection put together by Ethan

We would like to thank Caleb K who 'modernised the 'Bon Apiti' display in the school holidays and Ashleigh who presented our Cultural Day Display.

Treemendous School Makeover I have taken on a school task. It is about using a spot of the school grounds that is unattractive and designing and putting a plan into action and using that plan in a competition called Treemendous. I have sent my plan into the competition.

Removal of School Boundary Trees
The trees along the fence line on the Western side of the school need to be removed. Anyone interested in removing the trees for firewood, please approach a Board member or the Principal.
Bush Block update - Walking the Bush
On Thursday Ashleigh, Caleb K, Taine, Ethan, Charlotte, Tyler, Mrs Gillespie, Mrs Knight, Mum, Amber, Zahn, Elodie (a visitor from France), Mrs. Fielder and I arrived at the Bush. We began by redesigned the track by Hebe Mountain. After that we all walked the track and made improvements. We made sure that the learning stations were clear and ready to share on Thursday. We were pleased to see how well developed the bush is now. Thank you very much to all of the parents that came to the bush and helped us. - By Huntah

Weber students wrote us a lovely thank you letter. This is on display in our foyer. See the post below for some of our photos.
Herbalists
We are planting new herbs in our herb garden :- Lavender Major, Rosemary & Thyme. Our next step is to plant living herbs as part of our sustainable enterprise. - By Ethan.
Porina Moth Data Gathering
We have a problem! The Porina Moth larvae is killing our farmers grass. We would like to help our farmers find out:- 1) Where the Porina Moth is most likely to live. 2) The lifecycle of the moth so farmers can choose when to spray.
To monitor the moth, we are going to be a little creative and we have come up with a plan to try to catch the moths. We will be making the traps tomorrow, so if you have any spare ice-cream containers, can you send them to school please. We will be recording and counting the moths caught daily. The time when the most moths are caught shows mid flight for the adults. Thank you - Caleb J.
Hydroponic Experts
In the holidays, Mrs Fielder went into town and bought some plants for the hydroponic and herb garden. We would like to say thank you to Mrs Fielder for buying the plants. Mrs Cuming has also donated some basil and coriander. We aim to grow these to sell as a sustainable enterprise. By Ashleigh.

Missing
We have missing from school, several green handled garden tools - spades, forks etc. If anyone could help us locate these tools we would be very grateful, or if returned to school, no questions asked. - Apiti School students.
SportStars
At the moment, we are planning to do sports at lunch time. We are hoping that some of the parents can come and help us, we would appreciate this so much. This is practising for the end of term Oroua Schools athletic sports. - By Nastia.

These athletics will start next Monday the 18th of October straight after school. If all bus children are keen to attend, the bus will run an hour later. Please let Mary & Yvonne know. If the weather is obviously unsuitable for athletics, the bus will run at the normal time. If unsure, please ring the school. - J. Beard.
