Apiti Show
This event is taking place this Saturday the 27th of Feb. at the Apiti Domain. The school will be running the closest to the pin golf and if all families could help throughout the day, it would be appreciated.
We would like to thank all parents for their commitment. The show is a major fundraiser for us and your support is very much appreciated.
Students are finalising their exhibits over the next couple of days. They have been very motivated learners and we look forward to putting their exhibits on display.
Swimming
While this lovely weather continues, we will have swimming every day, so please remember to send a note or ring the school if your child needs to be excused from swimming for the day.
National Standards Meeting
Last Friday we hosted an Oroua meeting designed to inform teachers and Boards of Trustees about the recently developed National Standards. Four representatives from the Ministry of Education facilitated the meeting which was a great opportunity for us to further understand the role of the standards and ask questions. The meeting and information already received from various interested parties, reinforces to us the sound pedagogy we already have at
If you wish, you are welcome to fill out a survey for parents from NZ Principals’ Association. This was sent home last week. We will be collating these this week. If you have any questions or have any queries or would like another copy of this survey form, just call in at the office.
Learning @ Schools Conference
This Wednesday, Thursday and Friday Mary will be joining other teachers from our Feilding ICT Cluster to attend the annual learning @schools conference in Rotorua. This is a valuable professional learning opportunity which allows teachers to keep up to date with ICT developments and ways to use ICT as a tool to enhance learning.
Swimming trip to the Makino Aquatic Centre – 3rd March
The Oroua group of schools swimming sports are to be held on Friday the 12th of March at the Makino Aquatic Centre in Feilding. To plan for these sports, on Wednesday the 3rd of March, the whole school will be travelling in to the Makino pool to practise and to finalise event participation e.g length / width skills.
This will be for the whole day, so we will need to leave school at 9am and will return in time for the bus if needed. We will require transport for this trip, so please fill out the attached transport slip and return it to school so transport arrangements can be made. Children will require their togs, 2 towels, their lunch, a drink, a hat and sunscreen. If at all possible, it would be great if students are able to practice at the Makino pool several times prior to the sports as our pool is not suitable for diving or long distance swimming and it would also be great for their confidence.
Oroua Group of Schools Swimming Sports
This event will be held on Friday the 12th of March (p.p. date: 19th March), at the Makino Aquatic Centre in Feilding. The whole school will be attending this event, but the pre-swimmers will have a different programme. The whole school is to meet at the Makino by 9.15 as the first events are due to kick off at 9.30. Children will require their togs, 2 towels, their lunch, a drink, a hat and sunscreen. Students also need to wear their school uniform please. Could we please ask a parent to sit with the swimmers to make sure they are ready for their events – their event numbers will be written on their hand. Could we also ask for two parents to help with time keeping. Parents are asked to arrange transport for their own children for this day. If you have difficulty with this, please contact the school as soon as possible. The school bus will not run at all on this day. The day should conclude at about 2.15, so those who are not going to stay at the Makino, please make sure you are back there in plenty of time to pick your children up.
The younger students (those not participating in the senior sports) are to meet inside the Makino pool, sitting down near the trampoline but not on it! At 10.00 – Apiti, Kimbolton and Rangiwahia students walk to the library. 11.00 - return from the library. 11 – 11.30 - playtime at Makino park. 11.30 - change into togs. 11.45 - start swimming programme. These events should be finished by 12.45 after which time students will be returned to their parents or if desired, the weather is good and a teacher is free to watch them, they may have free time in the small pool.
Bon Apiti 2010
This year at
Twice a week we are committed to creating and selling healthy lunch options to all of the members of our school. By doing this we learn about healthy food, a balanced diet and possible yummy, healthy, cost effective lunch options.
Our aim is to share this with our family, the playcentre and our community.
As part of the 'Bon Apiti' committee we also develop our skills planning, budgeting, managing time, relating to others, keeping a bank account, cooking and maintaining a kitchen. These are skills we need to be sustainable citizens and lifelong learners.
